Apple is preparing to unveil a new AI-powered battery management feature in iOS 19, designed to extend iPhone battery life by learning from user behavior and optimizing power consumption. The feature, part of the broader “Apple Intelligence” initiative, is expected to make its debut at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June 2025, followed by a public release in September.
Smarter battery management through AI
The new system will monitor how users interact with their devices over time, identifying patterns that allow it to predict when to reduce energy use by limiting power to certain apps and background processes. The approach is similar to Android’s Adaptive Battery technology, which has been part of the Android ecosystem since 2018.
iOS 19 will also introduce a lock screen indicator that displays the estimated time remaining to fully charge the device, giving users clearer insights into their iPhone’s battery status.

Built for the iPhone 17 Air, but available to more devices
While the AI feature has been designed with the upcoming iPhone 17 Air in mind—a model rumored to feature a slimmer body and smaller battery capacity—it will also be available on all iPhones that support iOS 19. This move highlights Apple’s continued push to integrate AI-driven features that deliver practical improvements in daily device usage.
